Dr Walter Oechel

Dr. Walter Oechel

Dr. Walter C. Oechel heads the Global Change Research Group at SDSU. A Distinguished Professor, Dr. Oechel has recognized internationally for his research on global climate change and the exchange of carbon dioxide and methane gasses between vegetation and the atmosphere. Dr. Oechel’s work focuses primarily on the Arctic, the Pacific Basin (Baja California Sur, Mexico, and Indonesia), and the semi-arid ecosystems of Italy and San Diego.

Dr David Lipson

Dr. David Lipson

Dr. David Lipson is a soil microbial ecologist who studies the factors that determine soil microbial community structure and composition, and the processes by which soil microbes interact with vegetation and biogeochemical cycling to drive both large and small-scale ecosystem processes. Dr. Lipson’s work primarily takes place both in the chaparral and coastal sage scrub communities of Southern California, and the arctic tundra of Northern Alaska.

Dr Chun-Ta Lai

Dr. Chun-Ta Lai

Dr. Chun-Ta Lai is an ecosystem ecologist who specializes in the response and feedback of terrestrial ecosystems to climate change. Dr. Lai uses stable isotope techniques to study interactions and the transfer of water and carbon between ecosystems and the atmosphere at multiple scales.
